Also

Before philosophy, I worked for some years managing an NHS administration project in North London, training and eventually overseeing a team of eighteen staff who summarised clinical correspondence for GPs across Islington and substantially cut the volume of paperwork reaching doctors. Around the same time I did freelance copy-editing and proofreading, including work on a musician's memoir later published by Faber Music. I also sang for several years with various ensembles, semi-professionally, with highlights including backing vocals for Sigur Rós in Hyde Park and a solo backed by orchestra and choir in front of around eight thousand people at the Wilderness festival. Before university, I worked at a firm of tailors, and as a teenager I also waited tables at the old White Hart Lane stadium, before it was knocked down, and worked as a barrow boy helping stallholders set up and pack away Enfield Town Market.
